16th term Tiong Bahru CC YEC BGM 25 July 2009 The 16th term Tiong Bahru CC YEC BGM was held in Cathay Hall 4 from 6.20 pm to 6.45 pm in conjunction with the movie screening of ‘Harry Potter & the Half Blood Prince’. 30 YEC members were elected to the new committee and the new committee would like to outgoing Chairman, Wiliam Ang for his contribution in developing the Tiong Bahru Youth Club into a sucessful and established club during his two year term.

Tiong Bahru Youth Executive Committee and 34th Hwa Chong Outdoor Activities Club organisied  ‘Bike Hike 2009 – Project Speedway Velocity Redesigned’, an overnight cycling from 30 May to 31 May 2009 in celebration of the upcoming Youth Olympics 2010. Playgound @ Big Splash was the official venue sponsor while Fraser and Neave,  Red Bull & Zouk supported this event.

The bike route stretched from East Coast Park to Bukit Batok and a returning route back from Tiong Bahru Park to East Coast Park. Invitation has been extended to students from River Valley High School, National Junior College & St. Andrew’s Junior College.  The total turnout for the event was 314 and has set a new singapore record for having the largest participation of night cyclists.

Redeem tickets on 11 July ( from 2 pm – 5.30 pm), 12 July (from 12.30 pm – 4.00 pm), 18 July (2.30 pm – 6.00 pm) & from 19 July to 24 July at Tiong Bahru Community Centre Counter.  Any unclaimed tickets will be forfeited after the stated redemption period. No refund for tickets forfeited or purchased shall be entertained. Seats will be allocated on a first-come-first-serve basis during the redemption period and no selection of seats is allowed. Movie will subject to change due to unforeseen circumstances.

Tiong Bahru Community Centre KidsREAD Reading club welcomes all young children between 4 and 8 years old. This reading programme will be conducted on weekly basic with an hourly session of story telling and small group activities.

In light of the swine flu outbreak in many regions around the world, the Sand!sational comittee is sorry to announce the postponement of the Sandsational Race 2009 to early December this year.

The race is based on amazing race which is inspired by the thrilling TV series  where participants will cycle around Changi Beach Park & East Coast Park to reach their destinations and claim their prizes. This event is supported by the Singapore Sports Council, Singapore Youth Olympic Games Organising Committee, Central Singapore CDC and People’s Association Youth Movement.

As the PUB Marina Barrage is latest PUB project which provide water catchment & flood control, Tiong Bahru Community Centre Youth Executive Committee, Kim Tian East Residents’ Committee and Sarah Senior Activity Centre are incorporating dengue prevention education & water conservation into Marina Barrage tour for the residents & seniors.
