Blood Donation Drive

28 February 2009 (Saturday)

Blood donation drive was held at Tiong Bahru Community Centre Multi purpose hall, level 2 from 1 pm to 6 pm to increase the residents’ awareness in blood donation. As Tiong Bahru estate has never held a blood donation drive and the Bloodbank is just located in Outram, we were quite surprise that there was about 49 blood donors who turn up for the drives. Many thank to Mr Tan Ah Lek, Ms Chen & fellow grassroots leaders who have help to promote this drive as well as the blood donors who turn up to support this meaningful activity despite the rainy day.

The Youth Executive Committee members & volunteers who provide their assistance for this drive were William Ang, Chee Ling, Alex, Nina, Charmine, Jeraldine, Lim Ke Hao, Tang Hon Wei, Jacqueline & Eric.

As the Senior Citizens’ Club was organising their culture concert at 7.00 pm and required the Red Cross to vacant the premise so that they could process with their preparation, we was being informed to end the blood donation drive at 5.00 pm. For the 3 blood donors who turn up after 5.00 pm, we really appreciate your effort to come to Tiong Bahru Community Centre despite the heavy downfall.

Nature Walk @ Southern Ridges

16 November 2008 (Sunday)

It was the first time Tiong Bahru Community Centre Youth Executive Committee & Constituency Sport Club co-host a nature walk for the residents. The response was overwhelming with 107 participants signed up for the walk.

Nina, Angela, Hui Shi & members from KidsRead Programme came to the community centre on 15 November 08 and spent the whole morning packing the goodies into the shoe bags. Willam Ang & Chee Ling came to the community centre to join Angela in contacting the participants to remind them the assemble time on Sunday. As it was raining for the whole week, the Youth Executive Committee members were praying very hard that it would not rain on Sunday.

It seems like heaven has taken pity for our effort, it was a clear blue sky on Sunday morning. Angela and Nina registered the participants while Darren distributed the goodie bags to them. After registering the participants, Chee Ling & William briefed the participants and guided them to board the three buses. The buses ferried the participants to Jewel Box at Mount Faber Loop. Angela, Nina, Darren, William, Chee Ling & volunteers from Constituency Sport Club led the participants on a stroll from Mount Faber Hill through Telok Blangah Hill Park to Horticulture Park. The nature walk route allowed the participants to enjoy the pleasant scenery and panoramic view of two hill parks namely Mt Faber Park and Telok Blangah Hill as well as the southern ridges bridges, which consists of Henderson Wave and Alexandra Arch.

The nature walk route ended at the Horticulture Park and the participants carried on with their free & easy tour where they visited a collection of 20 theme gardens such as Silver Garden, Bamboo Labyrinth Herb and Spice Garden. Some of the participants visited the plant sale corner at the Hort Mart to check out the variety of plants available for purchase.

All the participants assembled at pick up point at Visitor Corner and boarded the buses at 11.45 am and were ferried back to Tiong Bahru Community Centre.

Starlight Movie Screening

14 June 2008 (Saturday)

The response for the movie screening was quite good with about 70 plus audiences. There was a minor hiccup as the committee has decided to distribute Kacang Puteh instead of food coupon. It was too late to inform the residents of the changes since the flyers has been already been distributed to the mailboxes. However, the overall atmosphere was pleasant with cooling weather for outdoor movie screening.

Angela Ho & hubby have spent their weekend doing the purchasing of Tidbits & can drinks while Alex has assisted to source for an excellent PA system for the movie screening.
